Dedicated fundraiser marks 10 years of supporting St John’s Hospice

A dedicated fundraiser has marked 10 years of supporting St John’s Hospice by raising a further £900, taking his total raised for the Doncaster hospice to an incredible £12,102.

Roger Smith, from Bentley, began fundraising for St John’s in 2016 following the death of his partner of 10 years, Cheryl, who spent her final days being cared for at the hospice in Balby.

Roger, who owns local business Fencing 4 U, said:

“The care and compassion Cheryl received at St John’s was incredible. I will always be grateful to the whole team for the kindness and support they showed Cheryl and me during such a difficult time.”

Over the past decade, Roger has supported the hospice through sponsored swims, garden parties, Northern Soul nights, raffles and tombolas, as well as helping in many other ways.

To mark his 10th year of fundraising, Roger held another garden party, complete with the traditional Northern Soul soundtrack. Friends and family joined representatives from St John’s Hospice at the event, which raised a further £900 for the hospice.

Roger added:

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to all the local businesses that have supported my fundraising over the years. There are too many to name individually, but I’m incredibly grateful for their continued support.

“I’d also like to thank all the DJs who give their time to support my events, and everyone who comes along to my garden parties and helps raise money for St John’s. I really appreciate everyone who gets involved and helps make them such enjoyable occasions.”

St John’s Hospice Fundraiser Tracey Gaughan said:

“Roger has been a fantastic supporter of St John’s over the past 10 years, and we are incredibly grateful for his continued dedication and generosity. He has raised an amazing amount for the hospice through a wide range of fundraising activities, and we really appreciate everything he does for us.

“Every penny raised makes a real difference, helping us provide the best possible care and support to our patients and their families.”
