Gavin takes the leap for St John’s Hospice

Gavin Elliott (45) ticked a long-awaited item off his bucket list on Saturday 7 June when he completed a thrilling 15,000ft skydive in aid of St John’s Hospice. By taking to the skies for the charity jump, Gavin not only fulfilled a lifelong dream but also raised vital funds to support local patients and families cared for by the hospice.

Gavin shared:

“I’ve always wanted to do a skydive.”

“It’s one of those things you dream about and doing it for St John’s Hospice made it all the more meaningful.”

Motivated by the incredible work the hospice does, Gavin saw the jump as the perfect opportunity to support a vital local service while fulfilling a lifelong ambition.

As a self-confessed plane enthusiast, Gavin said:

“I enjoyed everything about the day, starting with the plane ride up, but it was the leap itself that truly left a mark.

“The fall felt like floating, and with the wind in my face, it was such an exhilarating and freeing experience.”

Despite a cloudy forecast, Gavin was treated to another memorable experience.

Gavin added:

“Falling through a cloud was surprisingly lovely. It added something really unique to the experience.”

Reflecting on the day, Gavin called it ‘a great experience from start to finish’, so much so that he’s already planning to take the plunge again.

He said:

“I’ve definitely got the skydiving bug now. I’d love to do it again next year and hopefully raise even more than I did this time.”

St John’s Hospice Fundraising Manager Jenny Baynham said:

“We’re so grateful to Gavin for his support and bravery. These kinds of fundraisers make a real difference to the hospice, helping us continue to care for patients and their families. A big thank you from all of us at St John’s!”
