Bernie and Norman Oxley, decided to help raise funds for St John’s Hospice, Balby, after their brother-in-law Sheldon received end of life care there just over two years ago. His widow, Frances, also joined in by knitting goodies.

Norman (70), who has a sight problem, creates amazing wooden structures from old pallets and bits of wood, including Christmas trees, snowmen, plant pots and planters, while wife Bernie crochets dolls, baby bonnets, key rings, flowers and so much more and Frances tends to knit teddy bears. All of the creations are sold at summer and Christmas fund-raising fairs at the hospice, raising much needed money to run vital services.

Bernie (67) said:

“It’s so nice to know you are helping someone. We do the work in our free time and Norman has always wanted to do charity work. This is our way of helping such a fantastic cause.”

Jenny Baynham, Fundraising Manager for the hospice, said:

“The crafts created by the Oxley family are fabulous and quickly get snapped up at our fundraising events raising vital money for our hospice services. I can’t thank them enough for what they do.”

Fundraising is carried out by the hospital charity Your Hearts and Minds. To fundraise you can find out more at fundraising.
