Schools, swimming clubs, and community teams are being encouraged to dive into a new fundraising challenge in support of the Your Hearts and Minds £250,000 Therapy Pool Appeal.
The “250 Length Swimathon Challenge” invites participants to commit to swimming 250 lengths over a three-month period while raising sponsorship. All the funds raised will help support the development of a new, modern, sensory-rich therapy pool for people with disabilities and additional needs.
The planned therapy pool will replace the existing 30-year-old pool at the Diamond Activity and Therapeutic Centre, which is run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH). It will be larger in size to provide even more clients and members of the wider Doncaster community with a safe and welcoming environment where they can experience the physical, emotional, and wellbeing benefits of being in the water, helping to improve confidence, mobility, relaxation, and social interaction.
Swimathon supporters can take part individually or as part of a school, swimming club, or community group. Teams are encouraged to swim regularly, track their progress, and even go beyond the 250-length target.
As part of the challenge, everyone taking part will receive a sponsorship form, a thank you certificate along with the chance to win an additional prize for the team that swims the greatest number of lengths.
Your Hearts and Minds Fundraising Manager Jenny Baynham said:
“This challenge is a fantastic way for schools and clubs to come together, stay active, and make a real difference in the lives of people who rely on specialist therapy facilities.
“Every length swum will help bring us closer to creating an inclusive and accessible therapy pool for our clients and the wider community.”
Registration for the challenge is free via the Your Hearts and Minds website or by emailing the Fundraising team at [email protected].
Jenny added:
“Whether supporters are experienced swimmers or simply looking to support a worthwhile cause, the 250 Length Swimathon Challenge offers an opportunity to combine fitness, teamwork, and fundraising for a meaningful community project.”
